PSGCNJ Job-Search Tip #18

When you upload your resume and cover letter to an Applicant Tracking System, don’t type your name when it asks you to name the file. Instead, type the name of the position that you seek at the company. www.psgcnj.org.

Why? Isn’t possible the ATS won’t allow multiple people to use the same file name?

    • HR personnel work several job openings at the same time. So if you name the file “Your Name’s resume”, they will not know which job you are applying for and they won’t take the time to figure it out. Instead, I would recommend naming the file, “Job Title – Your Name” so your submission isn’t quickly discarded.
