What’s Your Job Search Game Plan?

By Judee Szaro-TreanorBusiness Meeting Notes

Having a Game Plan for Your Job Search is the title of the presentation that Denise “Dennie” Rath-Higgins will be giving to PSGCNJ at its general meeting on Monday, September 23rd.

Looking for a new job gives people a chance to step back, review their strengths, past accomplishments, personal purpose, and use that for the core of their plan going forward, according to Higgins, who will teach our members how to be proactive, as opposed to reactive; so, they can approach their job searches and networking with a clear purpose and design.

Dennie Higgins is a Senior Career Counselor, Certified Job/Wellness Coach, and Staff Development Expert who tries to help individuals identify and use their strengths to make productive decisions and achieve their goals.

As a Vice President of Transition Management Associates, she provided career transition and organizational development services to the New Jersey Department of Labor (DOL) and Workforce Development. When she was a former Vice President of Right Management Associates of Princeton/Parsippany, she created a program entitled, “Empowering You to Manage Your Own Career,” which broadened the organization’s career management consulting services.

While at Caliper Corporation, Higgins also designed programs to identify the strengths of the organization’s existing teams. She coached employers on ways to define jobs not only by the tasks necessary to complete them, but by the motivation and style necessary for people to be successful doing the jobs. These programs improved staff effectiveness and helped create successful hiring practices.

Higgins also created, sold, trained, and delivered a new process for matching welfare recipients to jobs, included in two nationally funded Welfare-to-Work programs.  As a result, she was invited to the White House where she was recognized along with others who made a significant contribution to the Welfare-to-Work efforts.

So, again, come hear Dennie Higgins on Monday, September 23rd, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, located at 48 West High Street, Somerville.

Please refrain from parking in the church parking lot. Metered parking is available on West High Street. Be sure to put enough coins in the meter! A parking ticket in Somerville Borough costs $24! Unmetered parking is also available on West High Street and on other side streets, near the church.

All PSGCNJ meetings are free and open to the public. Can’t make it this week? Visit our website at www.psgcnj.org for upcoming events.
