Give your best first impression to potential employers by making your résumé shine. Wednesday, November 13th from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon: The Professional Support Group of Morris County (PSGMC) will host Charles Fleisher, who will give a presentation titled: Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities. Left paralyzed by a spinal cord injury at age 18, Charles learned to adapt to life in a wheelchair. Wednesday, November 13th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm: The New York Science, Industry and Business Library will offer a program titled: WorkSearch Orientation.  Are you a 40+ job seeker? WorkSearch is an online system which provides links to job openings, skills assessment tools, and training programs at no cost to individuals.  After taking the orientation, WorkSearch is accessible to registrants through the Internet, or through Library computers.  Attendees will be shown how to download the information to a USB flash drive (Bring your own USB drive).  The meeting is at the New York Science, Industry and Business Library, 188 Madison Avenue @ 34th Street, New York, NY 10016.

Wednesday, November 13th from 6:30 – 8:00 pm: The Sayreville Public Library will host Terrence Seamon, an author and career coach, who will give a presentation titled: Eight Hacks for Today’s Savvy Job Hunter. This talk is inspired by his recent article Terry did for the www.Examiner.com which shares the story of how he has been career coaching a recent college graduate looking for a job. While the graduate does indeed want to be helped, he is resistant to the help at the same time. To inspire this young job seeker, Terry came up with the idea of a list of hacks. A hack is a clever way to accomplish something difficult. Hacking might be characterized as an appropriate application of ingenuity. Learn how to set up your campaigns and email list, and to use MailChimp to promote your brand.  In addition, there will be a LinkedIn Photo Shoot.  A professional photographer will be available to take a headshot for your LinkedIn Profile or other Social Media outlets. Saturday, November 16th from 8:30 – 11:00 am: Careers in Transition (CIT) meeting. Individuals give a 15 second elevator speech about themselves — who you are, what you are looking for, target companies (2-3), how the group can help you, and how you can help the group. This is followed by a short period for networking with people you would like to introduce yourself to and exchange business cards. The group then divides into smaller teams for: 1) Resume Assistance, (Please bring 15 copies of your resume if you want it reviewed.) or 2) Support in Overcoming Job Search Obstacles. This includes: A) Small group advice for individuals who have hit the wall and need help to reinvigorate their job search, or B) Large group discussion on various job search related topics. Sunday, November 17th from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will host Ed McCabe, a Lee, Hecht, Harrison career coach, and Rich Kritzer who will present the third segment of a four part workshop titled: Get Your Message Out – NETWORKING. Getting the message out about who you are and what you have to offer to people who are likely to hire you is at the heart of the job search process. This technique is often referred to as Networking. All are welcome!
